Helpful Wig Tips

Here are some Helpful Tips from Confident Reflections™:
  • In order to maintain the best condition and quality of the Human Hair in your prosthesis or hair enhancement, it is best if you avoid or minimize use of heated styling tools and the use of a blow dryer on the high heat setting.
  • If you use transparent tape to secure your hair enhancement or prosthesis, be sure to use the scissors that you cut the tape with only for that purpose. Adhesive tends to build up on the scissor blades and might transfer to other surfaces.
  • When traveling, do not leave a synthetic wig in the car for long periods of time in the summer. The temperature inside the car could cause damage to the fiber.
  • When flying, it is a good idea to carry any additional synthetic wigs in a carry on piece of luggage. The temperature in the cargo area may become very hot and possibly damage the fiber.
  • If you have a problem with scalp sensitivity, you might try using a small piece of a soft clean cotton t-shirt material that will cover the crown area of the head underneath your prosthesis.
  • Be sure to stand back and allow the first blast of heat that comes from the oven when opening the door and removing items from the oven. The heat may damage the synthetic fiber of the wig.
  • Small pieces of transparent tape are often sufficient to provide security for the prosthesis.
  • If you find that you would like to refresh your scalp during the day, try a wash cloth with warm water and a small amount of witch hazel. This works wonders, especially during the summer months.
  • Rinsing the cap of the prosthesis a few extra times will help to prevent any residue of shampoo that might build up on the inside of the cap of the prosthesis.
  • Always keep a small bag in the car with a scarf, a jacket with a hood, and an umbrella. This way you will never be caught off guard on an extremely windy or rainy day.
  • When choosing a shade for your prosthesis or wig, it is a good idea to go a little lighter than your natural color.
  • Wearing lipstick and blush will give you more confidence and lift your spirits.
  • A pedicure and a manicure can lift your spirits on days that are difficult.
  • If you sleep in a wig, try placing a clean soft piece of cotton t-shirt material underneath your wig for added comfort.
  • If you have lost your eyelashes, wearing glasses or sunglasses will help to keep dust and other objects from getting into your eyes.
  • The friction from leaning against a favorite chair or sofa can sometimes cause some tangling or frizzing at the back of the wig. If you use a satin or soft silk throw or pillowcase on the back of the chair or sofa it will reduce the friction that causes this problem.
